In the afternoon of December 6^th2019, the “Hainan University 2019 International Cultural Festival” was grandly held together by Hainan University School of International Education and International Admission and Cooperation Office at the Hainan University School of Tourism plaza. Hainan University Standing Committee Member of the Party Committee and Secretary of the United Front Work Department Mingbao Chen attended the opening ceremony and announced the opening. President of the School of International Education Yunsheng Yang gave welcome speech. Staffs of Hainan University related departments, principals of secondary institute, national and international Hainan University teachers and students, partial kindergartens, primary and middle schools teachers and students, and other thousands of social individuals participated in the cultural festival activities.

The content of this year’s International Cultural Festival is consisted of “Chinese and foreign art performances”, “Chinese and foreign food exhibition” and “national characteristic exhibition” three parts. There are a total of 55 countries and over 400 students on scene to participate, over hundreds of nations’ delicious food to be tasted for free, nearly 20 performances of Chinese and foreign art show and 55 countries’ national characteristic exhibition. There are multiple booths on scene representing different countries, the scene is filled with dazzling commodities, noise and enthusiasm, what a wonderful festival! Teachers and students from different countries communicate world civilization, learn the characteristics from five continents with a modest attitude, which fully represent Hainai University’s international and diverse feature as the first-tire university of China and its aim to create a world-class discipline.

Hainan University is the second wave of international students studying in China demonstration base gifted by the Ministry of Education and the education base of Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council. It used to be awarded the name of “Advanced Collective of the Education of International Student Studying in China”. Hainan University is also one of the first university whose international student accepted Chinese government scholarship, Confucius Institute scholarship and Hainan provincial government scholarship. In order to better serve the nation’s “ Belt and Road” initiative, Hainan University has established the Hainan University “Belt and Road” scholarship for international students in 2016. It has cultivated a group of outstanding international students, includes student Ruslan（Blue Sky）from Kazakhstan who donated rare RH negative blood type（known colloquially as “the blood of panda”）to help Chinese patients and was praised highly by President Xi Jinping, also student Lianna from Ukraine who served as the International Promotion Ambassador for Hainan Tourism and Culture.

In 2019, Hainan University recruited a total of 647 international students, among those there are 405 students who are supposed to achieve a degree (71 doctorate students, 110 master students, 224 undergraduate students). They come from five continents and 54 different countries include Russia, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Micronesia, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, Spain, Poland, Egypt, United States
